Why did you do this?
Just to make the streets where I live a bit nicer. The community is relatively bland, with few examples of public art. I enjoy knitting and felt this was a way to make my craft time a little artistic and brighten people's day.
Have any been taken down?
Not yet. If someone wanted to, it would be very easy to remove. It would take a pair of scissors and five minutes. I will continue to visit them regularly, and make sure they are in good condition. If one starts to look ratty or trashy I will remove it myself.
Wait a minute, knitting guy? What's that about?
Yeah, I'm a guy and I knit. Although women outnumber men by quite a bit, there are lots of male knitters. It isn't considered manly or straight in today's society, so many keep it low key.
I encourage any guy reading this to give knitting a try. It's very cheap to get started and there are lots of resources online to help you. It can be very relaxing and almost meditative. If you are single you can join a knitting group that will be filled with women, and the novelty of being a guy will get you lots of attention. (They aren't all old ladies)
Also, you will be able to make hand made presents for all the women in your life. Your wife, gfs, moms, grandmas, aunts, sisters, etc will be amazed and ecstatic over scarfs, hotpads, and dishtowels. These are all easy, beginner things to make (just rectangles).
How long have you been knitting? Why did you start?
Ostensibly, it was to teach my daughter. She received a "learn to knit" craft kit as a present, but the instructions were sparse and hard to understand. So, I decided to learn how in order to show her. I had thought about learning for a few years, so this was just the push I needed. That was about four years ago, and we have both been knitting off and on since.
